In November, 2008, Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and Federal Ministry of Economic and Technology of Germany issued the Cooperation Base for Sino-German Enterprises to Taicang. In April, 2012, The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of People's Republic of China issued Sino-German SME Cooperation Demonstration Zone, 2012 to Taicang.
As the unique Cooperation Base for Sino-German Enterprise, about 200 German enterprises have invested in this area, which makes it become one of the most concentrated areas with German investment nationwide. Currently, two distinctive industrial bases of precision machinery and auto parts have been established in the area. Key emphasis has been put on the development of new high-tech.
